Start with listening

Describe how you learned what a customer needed, clarified a concern, and explained an available option. Show how you adapted your communication. An example of solving the right problem is more useful than saying you are a people person.

Be precise about selling

If your role included recommending products or services, explain that responsibility. If it did not, focus on the communication and follow-through you can demonstrate. Do not relabel every customer interaction as a closed sale.

Identify the learning gap

Ask about prospecting, product demonstrations, negotiation, and recordkeeping expectations. Consider which activities are new to you and how the employer trains them. Understanding the gap helps you discuss your readiness realistically.

Prepare your application

Choose resume examples that match the posting, such as accurate account notes, product explanations, and resolving issues. In an interview, explain why you want the transition and ask how success is measured during the first months.
